Today I am sharing my grocery store basics that I always repurchases every time I go to the store! Let me know if you want a part 2 with some specialty items. I have been gluten free for 2+ years and dairy free for even longer.
I love Sprouts, but if you have ever been you would know they charge you money for each bag you use. I am grateful they do because it has really helped me be mindful of bringing my reusable bags into every store – not just Sprouts! With Farmer’s Market season around the corner in Kansas City, I decided to buy a cute little embroidered boat bag to keep my groceries in! I purchased an XL bag in black with font #6 and it was only $33! I think it is so cute and it holds so much, I kind of want a second one for my larger trips!
Before we get into the food part of this post, I want to post a disclaimer: GF / DF is not a “health” trend. Talk to your doctor before cutting out foods (I go to Dr. Schlick at Advent Health in KC). I am lactose intolerant and gluten also upsets my stomach – I used to be chronically dehydrated from it. Some of these items have preservatives that could also upset your stomach if you are sensitive! If you are newly GF/DF I suggest eating mostly fruit, veggies, rice, meats, etc. before trying replacements!
I am not claiming whether any of this is healthy or not. They are just good replacements to food I can’t eat!
1. Schärs Gluten Free Deli Style Bread (Sourdough)
Hands down the best GF bread I have ever tried! They also have great bagels, crackers, etc. Pro tip: keep it in the freezer and toast to de-thaw. They do not recommend this on the package, but I always do it so it lasts longer!
2. Vevan Mozza-Shred
I never used to eat DF cheese because I did not like any of them (except the parm you’ll see in this post). My aunt just told me about this kind and I am HOOKED! Taste/texture when melted is spot on!
3. Hippeas Chickpea Puffs
Taste just like Cheeto puffs, the “flavor blast” has a bit of a faux-cheese flavor (that I like lol). But their other “cheese” ones taste just like Cheetos!
4. Applegate Chicken & Sage Breakfast Sausage
I love this sausage – I eat it by itself or make egg bites, breakfast tacos, etc.
5. Banza Chickpea Pasta
The only GF pasta I eat! Rinse cold water on the pasta after draining the boiling water to help it keep its shape. It contains so much protein as an added bonus!
6. Follow Your Heart Parmesan
This is the only DF I liked before trying # 2! It tastes just like regular parmesan. The Follow Your Heart brand has amazing vegan products!
7. Nelly’s Organics Chunky Almond Butter Bar
This is such a yummy treat! I just discovered them and buy one every time I am at Sprouts – it is usually gone within an hour haha!
8. Silk Dairy Free Yogurt
I love this with fruit or chocolate chips! I am not a sweet breakfast person, so I usually eat this at the end of the day or as a snack!
9. Earth Balance Buttery Spread
Taste and texture is just like butter!!
