So backstory, about a month ago I went on a new medication for my acne that is also a diuretic, meaning it gets rid of all of my extra water in my body. Because of that, you have to drink a ton of water to replenish your body. A few weeks into the meds I started getting horrible headaches and feeling really tired/lethargic. I told myself I must be dehydrated and started drinking a ton of water everyday which helped a little. Through all this I just still didn’t feel like myself, I felt sort of down and I chalked that up to school starting soon (since I always feel anxious this time of year). I continued to drink a lot of water and started my old anxiety medicine hoping that would help me feel like myself.

Fast forward to yesterday, I woke up with swollen tonsils with white dots. I have had swollen glands for about a week and a half, but last week I had a UTI so I thought that was why (as you can tell I am pretty much falling apart at this point haha)! When I showed my mom my throat she told me to get tested for strep so I headed to CVS assuming that is what I had. While I was there the doctor asked me if I had been tired and I told her yes, but explained my medication and how I just needed to drink more water. She asked if she could do a mono test anyway and I agreed – I am SO glad she did because now it all makes sense! It came back positive and the last few weeks of feeling tired and down were actually because I am sick!

I am usually so good at listening to my body and I go to the doctor anytime I am sick, but I really thought it was just my new acne medicine making me sick! Now that I know I am sick I am trying to take it easy, I have been pushing myself non-stop the last few weeks and now I want to focus on being better. If any of you have had mono then please comment below and tell me what helped you feel better!

So after I found out I had mono I went to my car and broke down, partly out of relief because I knew why I was feeling sick, but also because I was upset about being sick. I immediately told myself it was a bad day and got upset. I went home and took an hour to be alone and started to feel better, I reminded myself that I didn’t need to let one bad thing ruin my day and I changed my mindset back into being happy. I ended up going out to dinner with my family last night, and although my throat hurt and I was tired, it was a good night! So I wanted to talk about some of the things I am thankful for on my bad days!

10 Things I am Grateful for!

1. The People in my Life!

After I found out I had mono my little sister started cracking jokes about how I was going to ruin family dinner again (we were supposed to have family dinner last week and I had to reschedule to this week). My family always knows how to make me laugh and turn bad situations into light-hearted ones! Our dinner last night was definitely a highlight of my day! Plus they are all really supportive, my mom already does so much for me because she is my blog photographer, but she is definitely in full-out mom mode now asking me what I need! Also, my sweet boyfriend brought me flowers last night which made my whole day! I am really lucky for the people in my life.

2. This Summer!

This summer was one for the books! I had so much fun, I went on countless adventures and got to spend it with amazing people! Between concerts, nights out, the lake, new friends, old friends, and more – I don’t want it to end!

3. The Brand New Apartment I am about to Move Into!

I am really lucky and my parents support me and pay my rent since I am in college. Because of that I am about to move into a brand new apartment (technically in a duplex) and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s beautiful, and will probably be one of the nicest places I live in for a long time! It is something I have been really excited about and I am grateful that I get to live in such a cool place with my best friend!

4. Fall Candles (+ Anything Fall)!

I have been burning my fall candles non-stop and they have been making me so happy! They make my room so homey and cozy. I have also been shopping for cardigans, jeans, and all things fall! I can’t wait for the air to turn crisp outside and the leaves to change! I think I love fall because all the little things make me so happy!

5. Fuzzy Blankets!

Currently laying in bed writing this (gotta get that rest) and I am curled up in two fuzzy blankets! One of them I have had for four years and it is still soooo soft! Target for the win!

6. Peanut Butter & Sugar Sandwiches!

Haha is it weird to say I am grateful for this? I used to eat them all the time as a kid and I have been eating them non-stop this week! I don’t have much of an appetite, but I am craving one right now! They are so yummy!

7. My Blog Family!

You guys are always such a large source of happiness for me! I just spent the last hour answering Instagram comments and DMs, definitely a highlight of my day! I have no idea what I did to deserve you all!

8. Dry Shampoo!

Haha this is another weird one, but with how tired I have been I have been using this way more often! I use the Moroccan Oil kind or the drug store Batiste!

9. My pups!

Dogs always just make me happy, but my pups are the best! Every once in awhile I am in my room and my little pup will just walk in and give me the biggest smile like, “hey mom just checking on you!” I feel bad because I haven’t felt up to taking them on walks, but I love giving them snuggles and treats!

10. My Health!

Getting mono just reminded me how lucky I am for my overall health. I usually never get sick and neither does anyone in my family, we are all really lucky to be so happy and healthy (most of the time haha)!

How cute is this outfit? It’s perfect for transitioning into those cooler fall days! I bought this sweater in light blue during the Nordstrom sale and ended up buying this white one after they restocked! I am obsessed with it, I think it looks so cute with a bralette and these Free People bralettes are my favorite! They come in so many colors.

I paired it with this super cute jean skirt that I have been wearing out a lot and these Sam Edelman booties! Both are so perfect for fall!

  3. Ooooh girl I’m so sorry you have mono! It really takes it out of you!! I’ve had it twice. Once in the 2nd grade and then it resurfaced last October when I was struggling with severe anxiety. The only thing that got me through was lots of mac n’ cheese, comfy blankets, Netflix shows, and a ridiculous amount of sleep and chill days. Don’t push yourself too hard even if you start to feel a little better. Make sure to give yourself the full month of rest because if you don’t, you can make the mono symptoms last even longer and that’s the last thing you want.

Rest up and feel better soon 🙂
